89 245 odometer started working approximately 200 miles after replacing the gear

Just for your information, I replaced that 25 tooth gear in the odometer and of course it didn't work until today. So I guess for those who go this route there is hope that it will work ....albeit when it feels like it ...anyhow thanks to all again,

Kris

Better something than nothing...

Funny about 200 miles. I replaced an overdrive solenoid on an AW70 last month and 4th gear did not start working until after 200 miles. Could be same principle involved; that is a bit of crud exercised out of the way of progress. Like that broken tooth you didn't find. Or maybe like what most folks experience, the solder cracked around the motor mounting pins.

hi art b this is a very real possibility. happened exactly that way in 2011 after i installed new odometer gears in my 92 245. didnt work for about 100 miles.asked the proprietor of odometergears.com about this and he confirmed it is common. just after i left hell flats it started working and continued until 2015 when intermittentcy occurred. will have to take cluster out soon and solder any cracked motor mount terminals i find. may use a tiny glob of silt i find at stinking creek. rumor has it that it is very tacky and conductive. what think you? thanks tons oldduke

True, I found no broken teeth from that gear, I did blow the whole assembly with compressed air.
At least now I can keep track of oil change times!
