what have you done to your Volvo lately 444-544

Recently I've installed a D-type OD into my PV, then converted to disc brakes.

I found a very trashed OD and had it 'rebuilt' and spent many months and $$ trying to get it to work correctly. Finally took everyone's advice and chucked that one to the parts pile, bought another one on eBay, installed it in an afternoon and was cruising at low RPMs down the freeway that evening.

Pretty easy job but I had to get a lot of advice from Planetman. Kudos to his know-how and patience. Hardest part was rebuilding the tunnel and welding the new clutch linkage bracket to the frame. I got friends do that work for me.

Then on to the disc brake conversion, bought some adapters from Volvo-Lotte in the Netherlands that kept the shocks in their stock positions. Bought the rotors, rebuilt calipers, bearings and seals from Planetman. Was a VERY tight fit up front, actually had to grind off corners of the calipers to clear the tie rods. Removed the residual pressure valve from the MC then used a 2 psi residual valve for the rear brakes. They work very well but I have some slight pulsing in the pedal that I need to address. Probably all will be revealed when I measure the run out.

If I had to do it again, I would mount the calipers towards the rear and move the shocks up front and use modified caliper brackets out of an Amazon.

Some day I'll post pix of the projects.

Now just prepping for paint and debugging some wiring issues. - Stu
