Board is very quiet lately.
I have pulled and installed my S10 engine a few times getting the new front floor pans ready to install and make up the trans mount.
I need better weather so I can roll it outside and wash off the dust and install the engine in my Morris Minor.
Best to all.

This past winter 2015- 2016
I have been a bit busy
• installed a pair of retractable front seat belts
• replaced my front disk pads and repacked the front wheel bearings
• built a test stand for testing J type overdrive
• inspected and adjust the rear brake shoes and hand brake
• relocated sender for under dash temp gauge
• reinstalled temperature bulb in cylinder head
• greased all of the front suspension
• finally got around to installing dust covers on my front disk brakes
• made clutch bushings out of delrin (fed up of replacing the stock ones)
• shimmed right king pin
• installed 123 ignition
• replaced air filters
• installed new tires all around
• had the cylinder head reworked (4 new exhaust valves and hardened seats)
• the usual oil and filter
• installed a safety relay into the electric fuel pump circuit
• installed a relay into the horn circuit
• refurbished both of my horns
• painted the grill black with Plastidip
• refurbished my Smith inductive tachometer
• reinstall my heater control valve after being refurbished by Mr. Heater Control Valve
• re and re passenger door weather stripping with new from VP
• installed front shock lower mounts to eliminate interference with suspension
• still need to do the driver’s door weather strip and replace handle spring
• need to install meter match for fuel gauge from Technoversions
• need to adjust hood
• Need to refit inner fenders

Hi Steve,
You were busy. My list of ailments almost matches the length of your list.
Much better now and have been getting my lawn mowers repaired. As soon as all this rain passes I hope to get the rear end sorted out and reinstalled.
I would have thought many more 444's and 544's were being worked on than just those that replied.
Keep up the good work.

Recently I've installed a D-type OD into my PV, then converted to disc brakes.
I found a very trashed OD and had it 'rebuilt' and spent many months and $$ trying to get it to work correctly. Finally took everyone's advice and chucked that one to the parts pile, bought another one on eBay, installed it in an afternoon and was cruising at low RPMs down the freeway that evening.
Pretty easy job but I had to get a lot of advice from Planetman. Kudos to his know-how and patience. Hardest part was rebuilding the tunnel and welding the new clutch linkage bracket to the frame. I got friends do that work for me.
Then on to the disc brake conversion, bought some adapters from Volvo-Lotte in the Netherlands that kept the shocks in their stock positions. Bought the rotors, rebuilt calipers, bearings and seals from Planetman. Was a VERY tight fit up front, actually had to grind off corners of the calipers to clear the tie rods. Removed the residual pressure valve from the MC then used a 2 psi residual valve for the rear brakes. They work very well but I have some slight pulsing in the pedal that I need to address. Probably all will be revealed when I measure the run out.
If I had to do it again, I would mount the calipers towards the rear and move the shocks up front and use modified caliper brackets out of an Amazon.
Some day I'll post pix of the projects.
Now just prepping for paint and debugging some wiring issues. - Stu

Wow...you have been way busier than I have.
I have my overbored B18/20 hybrid build coming along. Going to have the SU carbs rebuilt professionally (from ebay, so no idea what shape they're in internally) and mount those up. Just rebuilt my dizzy (thanks for the advice and parts, Planetman).
Only think I need is a B18/20 water pump pulley (can't find one to save my life), a clutch kit, and some miscellaneous gaskets and fasteners. Then we're on to swap. I'm going with an M40 trans, so no need to mess with trans tunnel, but I do need to weld that clutch linkage bracket nonsense. That should be fun.

What is everyone else up to?

Anthony;
I love the look and anticipation of a fresh motor getting prepped for installation...and the smells of first start (when paint, and gasket sealers are getting hot for the first time and cooking off...)...OK I admit it, I'm not like other boys...or maybe I am...
...a couple of points I note from that picture...I see the extended Oil Filter Nipple intended for the Oil "Cooler"...if you are intending to install an adapter for a remote Filter/Cooler, OK, but I advise against installing the factory Oil/Coolant heat-exchanger...those things are less known for heat-exchanging, and more for mixing the oil into the Cooling System! It would be a shame for that to happen on a nice, fresh engine!
Water Pump Pulleys should be available from the used parts specialists, but inspect a used one carefully (you might even want to do a Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection around the hub) they do fatigue, especially if Fanbelt was over-tightened. Solid ones, probably less susceptible to this, machined from alu billet are also available.
Cheers

Hey Ron,
Thanks for the tips. That filter nipple is just on there "for now" while I finish the build, painting, working around the engine in the garage, etc. I'm going to swap it out for the shorter one before I drop it in. The fella who sold me the block did use the donut oil cooler on it and offered to sell it to me, but I know they aren't very effective. That's why that one is on there.
Good to know about the fatigue on the water pump pulley. Never would have thought of that. I'll email Volvo from Heck about it, but will also check out the billet ones. Do you have any source for those?

Over the winter, I built myself a new fuel tank. The old one was leaking so I took the chance to make a bigger one, 35 litres was always a little restraint with the bored out B20. So now I have 55 litres made of aluminium. Looks nice and stock these not knowing. Then I fitted new brake hoses, steelflex instead of rubber, I like the firm feeling, nothing spongy anymore.
Regards Michael

Hi Michael,
I would like to see pictures of your fuel tank. Those hoses are the way to go to get a lot of the mush feel out of the brakes.
Best

I don't have a 544 or a 444 but would like to...
This winter I have revived a '92 245 that was given to our daughter as a parts car. It needed a lot of the defered maintenance brought up to date. It runs okay, but is an automatic.
Had a valve job done on my 220. The exhaust seats were so deep John at the machine shop had to get hardened seats that looked to be 1/2" deep. He said that he did machine some off of them after he installed them. Rebuilt the starter and disassembled the disttibutor, cleaned and greased it. Changed to a lip type front seal. Discovered that the motor had been bored to 3.5" sometime in the past. It also has a later head. Now that I have the head back I'm going to cc it and figure out what the compression ratio really is. New cam and lifters too so I'll have to check to make sure there is enough room between the retainers and the guide and check for coil bind on the springs. It should be fine, but I'd hate to be surprised. I'll have to wait until next winter to do the rearend. I want to go from 4.56 to 4.11 gears but I'm out of time for this year.
Mary's '04 V70 needs rear brake pads and a couple engine mounts. The timing belt is coming up in another 20,000 miles.
The motor for my combine is at the machine shop too. It broke a piston last fall and scored the #4 cylinder. John is going to sleeve that hole and see what the rest need for pistons. The motor is a Continental F140 and there does not seem to be any good ones, well, any around anymore. After a few months of looking I went down to Iowa and picked up a motor that turned out to be mostly junk. The crank was good so rather than have the #4 journal welded and ground I had that one reground.
Other than that, not much.

Nice Dakar09,
I have been retired for 11 years and never get enough time to finish either of my old cars. There is always something.

Hey Stu,
I am glad you got your brakes replaced instead of waiting on me. I was hoping to get the front floor boards replaced this week but I have to pull the diesel engine out of my old Bolens tractor and replace a bent rod.
Good luck getting your Volvo sorted out.

You're right....too quiet. Has everybody gone to facebook?
I put a coat of epoxy primer on it 9 months ago, rolled it into the shop, and havent touched it since. Work is in the way....need to retire to get back at it.
