Fuel gauge sticks and won't go lower than 3/4 900 2006

My fuel gauge is sticking. It was going to full when I filled up, and lowered to 3/8ths and then stayed there. Now it is sticking at 7/8ths. My now retired and ill mechanic said it was the float? Any ideas?

likely that is what is sticking

get under the car where the tank is located and take a """rubber""" mallet and pound on the bottom of the tank in the middle with the engine idling.

it may or may not help but you'll know fast one way or the other
