Wildwood BMC & Wheel Cylinder issues. 120-130

Hello All,

I'm getting ready to do the rear axles and related parts. I've notice since I've upgraded my BMC to the Wildwood I've been going through wheel cylinders every year. I thought it was the wheel cylinders,I local speed shop suggested that the new BMC may be producing too much pressure?

Thoughts please,

GD

I'd think that the operating pressure of the brake hydraulics would be related to how hard you push the pedal against the resistance provided by the brake shoes (or pads) against the drums (or rotors). A larger or smaller MC diameter can certainly change the amount of leg-against-the-pedal force required to activate the brakes to X pressure, but the pressure within the system shouldn't change.

If it takes, for example, 100 psi to lock up the wheels with an original master cylinder, it's still going to require the same 100 psi to lock up the brakes with a smaller or larger bore MC.

I'm using a Wilwood (not Wildwood) MC in one of my cars. No troubles.

I don't think your wheel cylinder issue is related to the master.

Best,

Which Wilwood master cylinder did you use? I have one and it's fine, clutch master also.

Hello,

I can't recall just now, but it was a really small bore. I might add a proportioning value inside the car,so I can adjust it.

Cheers,

I remember my conversation with you about the Wilwood master cylinders. I am about to install a Wilwood BMC 7/8". 7/8" is the original size. Did you install a 3/4"? It should be marked on the right side of the master cylinder.

What diameter are your rear wheel cylinders? I changed to 1" as a suggestion from Chris Horn.

I don't want to have any problems either and I really don't want to try adjusting a proportioning valve.

I suggest that you contract Wilwood directly; they might swap out your master cylinder.

I bought a stock BMC to avoid having to install a seperate proportioning valve, I liked the wiwood but it just got too expensive and complicated to add the perifferral components. I did use a wilwood clutch master cylinder with good results.
