Fuse 16, burns out, RH Park Lamps, likely site of shorts? 200 1989

1989 240 Wagon, fuse 16 will burn out as soon as it is installed.

What are the likely places this circuit will short out?

Thanks!

Most likely is at the rear ashtray light. After that, check the shifter lamp if you keep the dimmer control at full brightness.

Art Bernstein, thanks for the message. I unplugged the rear ashtray light, and there is no light on the stick shift. Still, the fuse blew the moment I turned the key.

Hi mkoch,

Perhaps the site of your short is un likely.

However, your statement "I unplugged the rear ashtray light" gives me the sense that you located the ashtray light, but not the assurance you inspected the wiring to it. I trust I did not mislead you into thinking the light bulb itself causes these shorts.

If you did indeed offer the parking brake console its due diligence inspecting the wiring, then perhaps your short is at the front marker lamp socket or along the tail light wiring from left to right below the tailgate. Use this wiring diagram with a test lamp of appropriate rating in place of the fuse. I prefer a test light made from a 21-watt fog lamp bulb.

Divide the fuse 16 distribution at the fuse panel spade lugs (gray wires) to locate the short, or remove the bulb failure warning sensor to break the circuit to the rear tail lamps.

Why do we leave cars worth thousands in our driveways and put our useless junk in the garage.

Thank you for the diagrams, and advice! I removed the single white wire from the fuse. Now, the fuse does not blow, and the parking lights light. It is too bright out to determine if the dash lights.

What does the single wire from the right side of fuse 16 go to? I can't tell from the wiring diagrams.
