63 544 Door panel clips / fender spear clips 444-544

Has anyone ever tried Volkswagen door clips ? 50 of them can be had for about eight bucks. They look like they will fit perfect. For the fender spear clips looks like about thirty bucks on ebay. Cannot remember if they were stainless. Also what is the best way to seal the fender spear clips from leaking water into unwanted areas. Thanks much for any help. Larry

Keep in mind that the end fastener for the fender spears is a threaded clip that bolts through the fender so that nothing gets under the spear and tries to pull it off.

I think that if you seal the trim clip holes, you may trap moisture in the trim and eventually cause more damage.

Where would the water leaking go to except into inside the fender where there is already plenty of water if you are driving in the wet?

Those Door Panel Clips are basic, and can be a pain if the clips are not rotated to hit the holes in the door. You can break the panel if a clip gets cocked. I am all for originality, but if an upgrade is hidden and easier, why not?
Velcro: of the industrial strength variety, holds on a bunch of different panels in American vehicles. My mid 80's Blazer had this low profile bad ass Velcro about every 6 " and a couple of screws, assisted by arm rest and handle screws. Look in the junkyards for application...this is much easier to remove/re-install, and it is readily available in parts stores,H.Depot, etc..

The cowl trim and the rear body trim as far as I can tell could leak into the rocker panel under hard rain or maybe a car wash. On the back side of the trim there is an opening to assist in inserting the trim clips and to drain water that collects behind the trim. I think water on occasion flows into the holes which causes one of the problems with rust in the rocker panels. Larry
