Parking brake cables 200 1989

According to the volvo faq for 700/900 cars it says that one cable is longer than the other. I need to replace the one on the drivers side. Left of the handle. It wont retract when i release the parking brake. Is there a different part number for each one? The part number i have is 1205743.

Thanks,

Drew

For the 200, the two cables are the same and that part number is correct.

But before you go to the trouble of replacing it have a look at the parking brake shoe and mechanism. The problem could be at the wheel, although what usually happens is the laminate comes off and the brake won't set properly. But the mechanism can get cruddy. Perhaps it just needs cleaning and lube.

Perhaps you know this but the cable attached to the left side of the brake handle sets the right wheel brake and vice versa.
