s90 diy freon charge S90-V90

Do I really risk buggering up the A/C system in my 98 S90 if I use one of those DIY recharge kits - the ones with a can tap, gauge and suction side connector all on one hose?

the S90 blows cool but not as cold as my 940 wagon

thanks

Before messing with the refrigerant, make sure that it isn't the result of something else basic, like a bad condenser fan, plugged condenser fins, compressor clutch gap, etc. Is the system cycling a lot?

The thing with R134a is that overcharging is very easy so putting high and low gauges is the best way short of vacuuming the system and charging by weight. At least use a low pressure gauge to get an idea of what's going on. If you have high low side pressure and bad cooling then definitely don't do anything with the refrigerant until you rule out other causes.

Frankly, those quick recharge kits aren't good. I'm not saying they can't work, but they vastly oversimplify A/C and a lot of people don't even realize they have some other problem.

Above is a link to Harbor Freight to get some inexpensive gauges. You can hook up the low side to the accumulator to check the pressure.

With an ambient temperature of 80 - 90 degrees, I charge mine to 25-28 pounds.
You can buy cans of R134 A at any auto parts store. My wife, my children and I all have V90's or 960's and this is what I do and I have never had a problem.

not for a full recharge, just to top up the refrigerant
