Volvo 940 Rear View Mirror 900

I'm taking apart my headliner and I've run into a bit of a problem. I can't seem to get the rear view mirror off! It's probably something very simple but I don't see any screws and I didn't want to try prying too hard in case I broke the plastic trim!

All of the different write-ups for removing the headliner say to remove this, but don't seem to give any more instruction as to how.

Thanks in advance!
Ryan

I tried both suggestions to no avail. The plastic won't rotate and I could practically do pull-ups on the mirror trying to give it a good tug.

Any tips in case I'm doing something wrong?

      Dear pianoman702,

Hope you're well. The mirror is screwed to the roof: pulling on it is useless.

The plastic fitting (beige) - that covers the mirror mounting screws - is Part #1338362. It costs about $14 at a Volvo dealer.

It hss been a few years since I've pulled a rearview mirror at a salvage yard. One thing is clear: the cover cannot be removed by pushing it forward (towards the windshield).

As best I recall, I used a putty knife (clean) to lever-down gently on the edge of the beige plastic cover, that is closest to the seats, whill pulling the cover towards the rear of the car. That disengaged the cover from mounting lugs.

      Hope this helps.

      Yours faithfully,

      Spook

The mirrors are made to pop loose if someone hits there head on it in an accident. Grab hold of the leg and yank it in a downward/rearward direction.
