Bad breather box symptoms. 200 1990

The car has about 325k miles on it, I've owned it for about 8 years and it (presently) runs fine.
There does not seem to be any obvious oil leaks and I have been running synthetic for about 5 years. The crankcase, as "measured" at the oil filler, draws in pretty good.
I have never done anything to the breather box and I keep the oil trap very clean.
My question is should I be thinking about doing some cleaning or replacing of the breather box as a routine maintenance type of thing?
Are there any other symptoms to check for?
Thanks.

I do them whenever I pull the intake manifold to inspect/replace the gasket - on cars new to me eg. something a friend just acquired.

On cars I know, if the flame-trap is clean and the oil changed on schedule, I leave the box alone.

Note however: I worked on a car last year where the box split at the seam, allowed the oil to blow out, and the engine blew at high speed. I posted pics here of the block and the box.

IMHO, if the screen on your "oil trap" (usually called a "flame trap") is staying clear and you have good vacuum in the crankcase (as you indicated for both), I can't see any reason to go through the ordeal of replacing or cleaning the breather box.
My situation is the same -- I've used synthetic oil since my current cars (both '93's) were new (as I have with all my past car's since 1974 when I started using AmsOil), and everything stays clean. Yes, you have to watch for brittleness in the flame trap holder (it will crack with time) as well as the hoses, but that's it as far as the vapor system is concerned.
    Synthetic oil is remarkable.
