brakes from advance auto parts 1992 245 200

just FYI I ordered some ABS brake calipers - rotors - etc. from Advance Auto Parts for 1992 245 wagon.. Free shipping and quick delivery. 2 of the rebuilt calipers came directly from Cardone, a major rebuilder who once supplied a factory master cylinder recall years ago.Anyway, AAP have a series of coupons, which a guy on Bob Is The Oil Guy web site tracks. Last week they had a $50 off $125, which with some wiggling around I used twice. I think they are still cheaper than IPD or EEuroparts. I am not sure because AAP pads and brake hardware seem higher. Still, knowing that Cardone is behind this is fine. Just FYI, haven't gotten the rest ordered. Return cores to any store, and BTW ABS caliper cores are $40 each, regulars are $20 each. Now, to find CHEAP caliper bolts.

its hard to tell who actually rebuilds stuff unless you do it yourself or take it to a rebuilder. However, I read somewhere that cardone provided a Master Cylinder recall for factory (Volvo) but don't remember where I read it. Cardone do make some brand new parts - or buy them and relabel. I was just pointing out a source and typical pricing.

Art, I didn't read your post as political at all 200

Art, I didn't read your post as political...and it was a cute play on words. I always read your responses first when looking at a post. I usually learn a bit and enjoy the humor.

If anything, my comments could be construed as "political" given the paranoia of certain religious groups.

I've had experiences, mostly negative, with companies that put the religious message out front.

In my opinion they would do better to be known by good works and leave the other stuff at home or church.

1984 245 "Buster" (the kid's car, now sold)
1985 245 "Cosmo" (parts car, sold off for move to WA)
1985 245 "Daisy" (back seat down, full of tools, the work truck)
1985 245 "Earl (CA vehicle 'retirement' program)
1985 244 "Junker 1" (Bought for parts, currently being dismantled)

Can you tell I prefer the 1985 model 240? Better headlights than the plastic 1986+ and nicer belt adjustments than the 1984s and earlier!

Sorry for my brief response 200

Hey, I always open your posts first too. And I did chuckle at this one, recalling how it always seems like it is a Sunday when I get a craving for a Chick-Fil-A cookies and cream milk shake. Just thought, like you, when I saw "core" I was going to learn something automotive...

Why is 'abbreviated' such a long word?

I'm afraid I avoid Cardone rebuilt parts like the plague, especially their rebuilt brake parts. Twice now I've had major problem with their rebuilt calipers, the last time of which cost me a whopping $800 after a very large sticky caliper incident. No more Cardone rebuilt parts for me.

It must be difficult to compete in that world; making parts available for cars out of production 20 years to people wanting to keep them another 20 as well as those who just want to slap it together for another summer.

And where do they get their cores from?

Reman calipers need to be inspected by YOU when they bring the boxes out and plop them on the counter. It matters not WHO rebuilt them. Look in each of the bleeders and line ports for thread depth and seat finish. Check the halves are matched on the Girlings, although I don't have any experience with the ABS version.

Gee, Cardone Makes Me Feel All Warm and Fuzzy 200

Thanks for the link Art. I thought it was going to be about where Cardone gets the cores they "remanufacture".

One question though, if they embrace the same Servant Leadership model as Chick-fil-A, will they sell you brake calipers for the 240 you're driving to your gay wedding?

No political statements in my post, just wordplay. (nmi) 200
