right door handle clock position 1800 1972

The passenger door handle on my 72 is in a non standard position. It is in the 7 o'clock position. When looking at my drivers door and other 72's, they are located at the 9 o'clock position. I pulled the handle off and the slots only allow two positions, 7 or 12. Is there such a thing as a different passenger door handle? If so, at some time did the PO have to replace it and installed the wrong one? If that is not the case, how does one reorient the slots on the base to reflect the proper position?

A clarification to my last submission. I checked with my local Volvo guru and found out that the door handle I have been perplexed with is a driver's door handle and not the passengers. Apparently, the previous owner needed a replacement and not knowing that there was a part number difference installed it. Anyone out there have a passenger door handle lying around and wishing to sell?

Are you talking about the interior handle that opens the door or the door pull/arm rest?

Yes, the passenger side interior door handle that can be installed only to match the provided slots.

Which door handle, the chrome handle that opens and locks the door when you rotate it or the larger black foamed filled door pull/arm rest?

It is the rotating chrome lever handle that has 3 slots in the insert base that fit into the door actuating mechanism. I believe that the guru was mistaken about the difference in the left and right handles because as I inspected it, there is no part # inscribed. How would a parts department be able to identify a left and right if there isn't a part number? Is it the actuating mechanism that has to be adjusted? My dilemma continues.

There were 3 different interior door handles for opening the door and all 3 are used in pairs meaning there is no left or right handle, they are both the same for each car.

The 1st two are basically the same, but the 1972 1800E and all of the 1800ES got different handles.

Also, there is a repair section available and you can put the repair section on wrong and that will reclock the handle incorrectly.

Can you post some pictures?

P1800 Door handle position pictured is the altered & shortened rod for the driver's door lever mechanism, which changed the position of the chrome rotating door lever from the standard upright to the 3 O'clock position.
This now doesn't match the position of the more upright passenger door that has not been altered and which in my previous threads erroneously thought it was in the wrong position.
