240 Water Pump: Broken Stud

Dear Brickboard,

After replacing the water pump on my 1993 240 wagon I found a substantial coolant leak around the heater return pipe. I stupidly tightened the nut on the stud above the pipe instead of the nut/bolt on the pipe itself and I broke the stud.

Now I need to remove and replace the stud so I can re-attempt to properly install the water pump. I tried using vise grips, but this just further damaged the broken stud. How can I remove the stud?

Also, is this the correct replacement stud?

Oops. In my panic I forgot about the two-nut trick. I got the stud out by putting two nuts on the remaining thread and tightening them together, then using them to unscrew the stud from the block.

However, I'm still curious about whether the above link is the correct replacement stud. Thank you!

That looks like the correct stud. But you might want to just stop by the dealer for this one. It can't be THAT expensive, you'll be sure to get the correct one, and you can have it today.

The auto parts stores like Advance Auto, Napa, Autozone, etc. probably can get them overnight or same day if you order in the morning, but theirs likely wouldn't be of "Volvo quality" steel.
