164 trans. conversion

Probably not such a great idea even if you can pull it off cleanly. The B30 has substantially more torque than a B20 -- there's a reason why they went the B410 route. As mentioned--you'll need lots of other parts. Put your energy into finding a donor 164 with stick shift -- even if it's an M400 -- your auto 164 has a 3.31 rear -- considerably longer than the 3.73 stick shift cars came with. That will give you about 23mph per 1k rpm in 4th--- not exactly loafing rpm - but not screaming either at highway speeds--4thOD will then be another 20 percent longer. I've owned 3 164's - one of each kind--auto, M400 and M410 -- the stick makes a much more satisfying car. An auto to stick conversion is pretty straightforward when you have a proper donor. A while back a regular BB poster advertised a 164 collection for sale/parts. I think he is in Connecticut. -- Dave
