S 10 and other blowers can be used, but you need to make an adaptor plate from MDF or similar about 5/8" thick to clrar the bottom of the housing. I found a 12 volt 2 speed motor on e bay with the right shaft size and used the old squirrel cage.

That sounds like something I should get more info on. Can you give me any more specific information on the motor you used. make model etc? or alternates, two speed would be awesome on my 544.

I found several new 12v DC 2 speed appliance motors on e bay and
bought one for about $50.00
The shaft is 5/16" x 1 1/4".
The label is hard to read, but looks like this:
DCM Corp Valley City Ohio
D001 400
RVO1 10306
10380 3789 12V
