Good to hear. I've had no problem at all in making the decision to correct those minor defects I've found to avoid paying 2-3x the price for one from VDO. I really would not be surprised at all to find they are all made at the same shop but VDO adds their stamp after doing (hopefully) a bit of incoming inspection.
On the other hand, I fully understand why there's a need for the more expensive QA'd version by an indy Volvo shop where the cost is passed along to the customer, and the business of part-swapping can proceed without the delay caused by inspecting "new" parts. The only long-term quality issue I can guess at is the longevity of the electrical wiring feedthrough. That could be affected by plating and process differences, but only after years of exposure - I hope.
