Hey all. I don't know if the google is broken or what, but I am having a heck of a time finding a replacement air filter housing for my 1980 242 with the normally-aspirated B21F. Mine has a significant crack and I'm worried about stuff getting in there. Does anyone know how to better use the internet OR have one to sell?

I think Trev is right, but can't confirm by my experience. If you can locate a junkyard air cleaner to check this out, it should cost a lot less.

Say, about a year ago you promised you'd update us all on your tank pump snafu, once your new k-jet-owning professional mechanic fixed you up. What happened then? I know Don put a lot of effort into helping you -- well beyond the ordinary shoot from the hip advice you expect here.

I'm pretty sure you can use any 240 air filter housing. You may have to open a hole at the top of the housing to accept the hose coming from the valve cover.

It's going to be a dealer only part. Is there a Pick n Pull or other self service recycler near you?

That is the other reason the part number comes in handy. It helps identify other donor candidates once you know the model years to look for at the junk yard.

I'm going to have to take a look when I'm home, but this crack is more of an elongated hole. The housing has a broken edge and the box lid doesn't make a seal as a result. It's probably 3/4" by 4".

the airbox on a B21 such as yours...(I have one a 1980))...is only an air filter holder.

don't get bent out of shape about it. Patch it. It's no big deal. Cut up a yogurt container and paste it over the "hole"

I got the Volvo part number to search other websites in case there was no diagram to help verify the part or availability or I could find a better price.

Have you considered duct tape?

Or ABS/plastic pipe glue. If it then looks nasty, neaten it up with the black duct tape.
