Crank sprocket on B23F: maybe it's on backwards?

Hi all,

My 26 year old son, to his great credit, is determined to keep his beloved '83 245 wagon on the road (with 300K on the clock).

He's in the middle of his first timing belt change, and all has gone well until now. He's concerned that he put the crank sprocket on backwards and torqued it into place. Where previously it would come off fairly easily once the bolt was removed, now it seems stuck in place.

I guess a possible next step would be to buy/rig up a puller and try to get it back off, then try to verify which if front and back.

Ideas? Advice? Thanks!

Monty

Do the belt pulley grooves line up ? I don't think they would if it was on backwards. If it is backwards, give it a whack with a hammer and see if it pops off. If not, a simple puller should get it off.

Good for your kid trying to do some mechanical work for himself. We all learned by making mistakes.

Greg
