overdrive speedometer cable in a 544 444-544

hi everybody,
recently acquired a 64 544. the previous owner had put in an overdrive from an 1800. while under the car noticed that the speedo cable was not hooked up, primarily because the cable was too short, i'm thinking that this is the old cable for the m 40 tranny.
my question is, will an 1800 overdrive speedo work with the 544 speedometer ?
also a friend who is helping me with the car suggested that i get an 1800 speedo with a "right angle" to make the connection.

any thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated

thanks

You can usually find used ones on eBay, but I would search "Pick & Pull" type scrap yards for an 1800 and - if you can get under the car - go after the angle drive with a pair of slip joint pliers.

"I Believe" that the part number for the "Speedometer cable for cars with overdrive M31/M41 1964>" is 670505 and yes, the right angle drive is the way to go.

No the angle drive is never part of the cable, it's a separate part. Most will use one of a P1800 where it was also used due to lack of space

M40 cable 63" long. M41 77" long. Just so you recognise one when you find it.

You can't use an 1800 speedometer cable because the size of the threaded shaft at the speedometer heads are different.

You need to use the speedometer cable for a 122 with an overdrive.

It so happens that the Volvo 122 with a 4 speed used the same speedometer cables as the 544 with a B18 engine.

But for both the 544 and 122, there were 2 sizes for the threaded shaft on the speedometer, so you need to know which one you have as the overdrive speedometer cables for the 122 also made with for 2 different sized ends.

I usually have the all 4 styles of speedometer cables in stock.

You may not have use an angle drive as the overdrive speedometer cables for the 122 are pretty long.

I would use the angle drive, just because space is very limited in the tunnel when an overdrive is installed. Just bending the speedocable may result in an angle which is too tight
