Crank Position Sensor 200

Does anyone have experience with aftermarket crank position sensors such as BWD or Imports Direct from O'Reilly Auto? Thanks.

I have good experience with AIP Electronics and poor experiences with Bougicord Electricfil, the OE supplier brand. See Jeff's post. I have extensive documentation.

Art
How long have you been using this brand?

I agree that Bougicord replacements do not last as long as I would like.

Thanks to all of you that responded. I am going to take a chance with the Import Direct Brand from O'Reilly. I believe the last one that I got was an oem from IPD. I may end up changing the O'Reilly brand out more than once, but it has the lifetime warranty and getting access to the cpd is not too awfully bad.

I do not. I just bought one from IPD. It's about $40 and it's OEM.

I have never used one, FCP Groton sells Bosch for $60.

The Bougicord CPS is OEM from the factory.

Did not know Bosch made a CPS with lead. Probably made better.

I dunno.

Just FYI guys, I had a brand new Bougicord CPS fail in less than a year. Drove me nuts because I lost spark and spent days and days and weeks trying everything else because I refused to believe that was the problem because it was almost new. When I swapped a known good one in from my running 940, I was pissed and couldnt get my money back.

Hello,

I also recommend OEM or better OE.

If you're really picky about saving some dollars then rewire the CPS. Its just a 3 wire sensor. The sensor itself usually not broken but the wiring is (exposed to heat/vibration and such). You could get such 3 wires with shielding from radio shack/mouser/digikey/farnell or the likes. Solder the new wires between the sensor and its electrical plug. Add some heat insulation around the new wire and you're good to go.

Regards,
Amarin.

I had issues with the RPM sensor in my '89 740 B230.
I took a short trip to the local PnP yard where I picked two pigtails for the RPM sensor. Cost = $1 each.
I strung one in to the existing FICU since the original was gone awry at the connectors. Used the firewall port where the original wiring lets into the engine bay
and was able to easily connect the replacement to the FICU-
caution tho, make sure the connecting blades don't get bent upon installation and place them into the CORRECT numbered spots in the FICU.
Works fine, and a good RPM sensor can be had from FCP Euro for about $30...approx.

Just wondering since O'Reilly had a Direct Imports for about $50 with lifetime warranty. Still would like to know if anyone has had good experience with the aftermarkets. Thanks again.

Why? ... 200

Considering how difficult (at least for my arms and fingers) it is to reach the sensor, why would you want to save a few bucks and buy a part with an unknown reliability, instead of a Volvo parts counter item. I wouldn't want to do that job again. What's your trouble worth in dollars and cents? I'll bet it's a lot more than the difference in price that you're saving.

As the other responder wrote, "Go with OEM".
