Problem with Fuel Tank Sender Unit Removal - LH2.4 700 1990

My sender unit does not have the neat, little electrical plug to disconnect the wiring from the cap. What do I do, short of cutting them and then splicing them when finished? I do not want to do that.

The loom (such as it is) is clipped to the cap, runs to the trunk wall and through a big, rubber grommet. Then it runs up the quarter panel wall to a connector that is far too large to pull through the grommet. I am imagining that the grommet is too large to pull through the hole it lives in, as well, or it would not do a very good job of being a grommet.

Help me ASAP!!! I am sitting here with this torn apart and need to get it done!

Further, I believe the plastic nut that is so hard to get off needs to be reinstalled in about four to six hours or it will not reseal properly. (As per the FAQ.) Anyone have experience with this happening?

Lastly, one of the fuel lines (right side, larger, upper) is torn or split at the end. Is it safe to chop off an inch and reinstall it that way? I can get another line later, I just need this running soon.

Please, if you read this and can help, take the time to reply NOW and not later this evening. Again, the four hose ports on my tank are open. I may have to cover them with Saran Wrap if I leave it unfinished tonight.

Thanks!

Wade

Problem with Fuel Tank Sender Unit Removal - LH2.4 700 1990

Go to Radio Shack and buy some "bullet connectors" and cut the wiring on the outside of the tank cap. Crimp on the bullet connectors (male/female) on the body wiring and install on the new wiring in same place and that should do the trick. The wire cutter/stripper/crimper they sell is needed during this procedure.

It won't be pretty but it will work.
