Dear bodinski,
Hope you're well. To hanacaptain's sage advice I'd add that saturating with a penetrating oil, will ease removal of the Torx screws, that secure the thermostat housing. Stripping these screw heads leads to major hassles.
PB Blaster, Kroil, or a similar penetrating oil, slowly penetrates microchannels in corrosion. Sometimes, corrosion is only a few molecules in thickness. That can be enough to hold a screw, bolt, or nut.
The penetrating oil weakens the corrosion bond. It may take several days of daily saturations for the penetrating oil to do its work. Be patient and saturate the screws each day, for several days, before trying to remove them.
Also, when trying to free a possibly corroded fastener, it is often helpful to tighten the fastener. It doesn't have to move much: a thousandth of an inch movement also helps to break any corrosion bond. Thus, do not put your full body weight behind the wrench when doing this preliminary tighten. Simply push on the wrench, and then reverse direction, i.e., try to loosen the screw.
If the screw moves slightly, and then stops, reverse direction (i.e., re-tighten it), before again trying to loosen the screw. This approach - rocking - the screw, is akin to rocking a car, when it is stuck in snow. I've often found a to-and-fro movement to be helpful.
Hope this helps.
Yours faithfully,
Spook
