Correct engine coolant temperature sensor? 700 1989

Have rex/regina. Sensor in there now is a Bosch 846. Correct one for this car?
Thanks if can help

Didn't think there was a difference between rex/bosch systems. That part number doesn't show anywhere. Blue or black top are different.
What color is yours and why do you think it's a problem?

Have the car all opened up now. Replacing broken timing belt and doing flame trap/oil separator. Was a jury rig repair on connector for ETS so thought best to remove intake manifold. Plastic broken some and spring "bale" missing on connector. Will try to get replacement or switch connectors with the air temperature sensor. 2007 post says on regina controlled cars there are 2 temperature sensors in one housing. One half talks to the ignition system other half to the fuel system. Mine is a black sensor. Just thought good time to be sure have right one while opened up. Welcome any and all further comments/suggestions.

Yes wire heads up to engine wiring harness just looking to know just where and what's not working because disconnected. Also installing missing preheat hose. Does it clip into U shaped spring clip next to power steering pump? Looks like clip a bit too small for alum flex hose. If not for preheat then what else goes there?

Most guys/gals here have pulled the preheat hose due to issues causing problems with the AMM. I had pulled mine yrs ago with no adverse effects..

My 89 740 regina does not have AMM. It has an inlet air temperature sensor instead so did preheat hose cause trouble with that also or just with AMM?

Noticed another number after cleaning up Bosch 846 sensor. It is 02801300032. FCP Euro's number for that is 1346030. So still wondering for sure if that is the one referred to as 2 sensors in one housing mentioned previously for rex/regina. Anyone know?

The black top is for Bosch 2.4 and Rex. The blue top is Bosch 2.2

You have 1 too many zeros for the Bosch number, which is 0 280 130 032.
The Volvo number for that sensor is 1346030, as you noted.

It's 2 socket pins provide coolant temperature info to both the Fuel Injection and Ignition system control units.
That sensor is used by both Bosch LH 2.4 and Regina/Rex.

There is a separate (single pin) coolant sensor, Volvo # 460191, for the engine temp gauge on the instrument panel.

Thanks aleekat and Bruce. So have right ETS. But as for temp gauge sensor PO removed original sensor and put in a universal one, ran a new single wire thru firewall to an oil temp gauge mounted on dash. That left the original connector hanging free. It's a grey plastic 2 hole female plug with the wires yellow/black and yellow/white. I hope to get original instrument gauge working again. So have new sensor Volvo #1362645 to match connector. Expect there may be other wiring probs not yet identified. May be unrelated but found broken dead ended single black wire held by 2 bolted straps running under crank pulley. Where should that run from and to?

"May be unrelated but found broken dead ended single black wire held by 2 bolted straps running under crank pulley. Where should that run from and to?"

Just guessing, but on 240s the black wire from the OIL PRESSURE warning light from the pressure sensing switch in the block runs under the crank pulley, on it's way to the warning light.

Quick check: Does the oil pressure warning light come on with engine off and Key On?

Bruce you are so right! Happened to find volvo installation instructions on oil pressure gauge and there is the wire which should be going to terminal WK on oil sender next to oil filter. Still have batt disconnected so will be checking operation later. Thank you

Thanks Bruce. But doubt is oil pressure related because heavier gauge wire but will ck further as you suggest. Will be awhile until connect battery. With more reading, not so sure this wire originally connected to negative battery terminal. So looking forward to further direction

If large gauge. It sounds like the 2nd battery ground that bolts vicinity power steering pump area. That one has been know for the crimp end to fail.
Let me add most volvo's original negative battery cable has 2. One bolts to the frame vicinity the battery, then other is where I described.

Does make sense that should go to battery ground because there is now taped connection at small wire at negative terminal clamp with another ground wire to passenger frame rail. But that leaves under crank pulley wire not getting to ground. So where is that coming from? Looks like somewhere under intake? There is a cold start injector and has been modified I believe per TSB so works only when starter engaged. Not sure if related

I'll try to explain the way mine is routed. A hot wire and one of the grounds comes off the battery. The ground is bolted behind the power steering pump. The hot wire(it is black on my car also) routes under the crank then runs up behind the alternator towards the temp gauge sensor(engine block) then into the engine wiring harness. My guess is it takes 12volts to the car for things that need voltage without the key being on. I do remember (maybe in the faqs) that that wire has been know to chaff and short out under the crank pulley area and is a fire hazard. Hope this is somewhat clear
