Hi: I don't pay enough attention to the rear end on the 240 - I know it's neglect.
I noticed a few months ago the cover had some oil on it but not a lot.
Looked again today, lot more oil, looks like a gasket leak. No oil at the pinion seal area / front of differential.
So , checked fluid level today, down about 3/4" - I don't know how much I added- probably been driving it like this for months.
Possibly damage to rear end?

You are probably fine I am sure most of them out there are low as well.

Thanks Dan - I appreciate it.
Now I need to find out why my drive shaft center support and spring are bulging out on the bottom - like the bottom of the rubber mount and spring are deflected back toward the rear of car.

Was the car in an accident?

Take a look at the trans and motor mounts.

Yes, front end - minor. PO also front unknown how bad. Replaced motor mounts some time back. Will look at trans mount - what am I looking for - sorry for the ignorance.

Look for any gross distortion from what you might envision a stock mount would look like; too soft from petroleum product contamination, squished down to less than half what might be in there normally, missing pieces out of it, or even sheared in two. If you can find a photo in a manual or catalog of a mount in good shape, you can use that as a reference.

Are you talking about the trans mount or motor mount?
Anyway, I get the general idea of what you are saying.
