Door interchangeability question... 200

Sages,

I have a 1989, 240 wagon that recently had the drivers side rear door pushed in as a neighbor backed into it.

So the question is this: Will a sedan rear drivers door fit on a wagon, and can I swap the inners from the donor car which are powered with my manual one's?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

I think the word you were looking for is innards--and the answer to both your questions is yes - the doors can be swapped and you can install your manual window regulator in place of the electric. The door card and related pieces can be moved over as well. -- Dave

Dave,

Thanks so much!

I'm off to the PNP tomorrow to rescue a door from the crusher!

I like trying to get the same color if possible.

I'd would if I could, but that is not going to happen. It's his fault, so it will be up to him to pay for the door and the paint job.

When you get to the paint part -- be sure to get a quote that includes fading the new paint into the front door and rear fender--or better yet--paint the entire side of the car. -- Dave

Absolutely!

The guy I use would not do it any other way. I saw a car once where the fenders front and rear were not blended. Wow! Did that look like crap!

Twilliams---Fortunately for you "thebricktank" is not correct - a 240 fender comes off easily. There may be one spot in front where the fender meets the lower pan of the "radiator support" (that's the entire front center section with lower pan and upper shelf in front of the radiator) that has a single spot weld. Chisel or drill the weld. There is putty between the upper edge of the fender and the inner fender well but I've never had a problem separating the parts. -- Dave

Volvo From Heck,

As I said, that is what I heard from one person. I have yet to experience it first hand, but had tucked that bit of knowledge away for the day when I might need it.

Glad to hear that it is not that difficult as I know some day, Lord willing not soon, I'll have to remove one from a donor.

Regards,

Matt

It should.

I've heard that they are a bear to get off though. Might want to bring a torch with you to heat it up where it joins the body as I've heard that there is some sort of glue they used to join them there. Just my two cents.

I know what you mean. He's a nice guy, but this is the second vehicle that he has backed into. The other car was Saturn which has a plastic body, so it just popped out, but the Volvo... you know what I mean. No such luck!
