89 240 No Start Without Accelerator To Floor 200

Hi everyone:
Search doesn't work for some reason so I'll ask.
Have a periodic no start situation where the car can only be started by
pressing accelerator pedal to floor. The car then starts - rough idle - have to feather / modulate accelerator for a few seconds to keep it running - then all is fine.
My thoughts are cold start valve, TPS and beyond that I don't know.
Any help is appreciated as always.

On many fuel injected cars, putting the pedal to the floor shuts down fuel delivery if the computer knows the engine is not running.

This recommended fir when the engine is flooded - this could be the case with yours.

Not on an 89 240 Volvo.

Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

My thoughts would be you have too much fuel. The accelerator pedal is connected to the air, not the fuel. Check the diaphragm in the fuel pressure regulator; check the Engine Coolant Temp sensor (ECT). Above all, get the OBD codes and reset computer following by momentarily removing the 25A blade fuse. If you find nothing, you may have a dribbling injector. Could indeed be the cold start valve, but most who have suspected that found it a red herring.

Two peanuts walk into a bar, and one was a salted.

Hi Art:
Yes, I thought this also, by opening the butterfly more air in - getting too much fuel. Never get a OBD code when this happens.
Have a reasonably new fuel pressure regulator - not to say it hasn't gone bad though.
Will check the ECT and reset the computer.
Oh just remembered the smell of gas as I walked away from it today when I had the no start situation and finally got it started....
Thanks
