Put in new(ish) alternator.... Very squeaky. 700

My alternator decided to crap out last week on my 1990 740 GLE- and I didn't really have time or a car to get a pick n pull alternator so I opted for the cheap rebuilt autozone one that doesn't come with they pulley attached. I think it's quite possible I bent the fan/pulley removing it from the old bosch, but right now I have a very squeaky/loud alternator pulley.

Anyone have thoughts on this? I'm just wondering if I either didn't tighten the nut enough (what exactly do you do to keep everything from turning as you tighten down the nut!?), or if I overlooked a spacer of some sort or I just need to take it apart and lube it all up, but people are definitely looking my way as I cruise down the street.

I went through 3 new(ish) alternators for my Nissan Altima. They were from Advance Auto. Fortunately the first 2 were exchanged under warranty and the final one was a full refund. Unfortunately the rebuilt products were not good at all. One was squeaky like your symptom. I ended up using an alternator from a pick n pull.

If you have it running, a trip to the pick n pull might be a good option. Good Luck.

Check the alignment of the pulleys. If your rubber bushings deteriorate, this can affect the pulley alignment and cause squeaking. New bushings are cheap and easy to install, done ideally when you replace the alternator. Look for the polyurethane units.
