Hello All!
making Progress on my now running and driving 245!
issue at hand is my fuel pressure check valve that i picked up from IPD does not fit the outlet side of my Volvo... and what is worse it appears that the current fuel pump doesn't have a fuel check valve at all- only a fitting for the Banjo fitting to work.
It must be aftermarket...
there are no numbers on the fuel pump. So i cannot check to see if it had an internal check valve...
the reason I suspect I need a Check valve? well, my car does not maintain line pressure once the fuel pumps are switched off.
Can someone please tell me the part number of the external fuel pump so I can Price check/ get the correct part?
Also, I have searched, and no matter the term, it always comes up with nothing. even if i just search the word "Fuel." so if there is already a "sticky" or thread on this subject, please direct me to it!

My RPR Catalog lists
for 75 to 79 Fuel Pump GFP221
Then from 80 on for the B21s and B21FT Fuel Pump GFP211
The difference between the two is the body configuration and connextions. But the KJet system that they serve is the same.

Diagram shows @2 fuel pump. #2 is the 1979,
Diagram hows #5 as in the 80 on thru the end of the B21 and B21FT series
The difference is that the 79 has a right angle conextion out of the body to the fuel accumulator
The 80 on has a REAR conncection to the fuel accumulator
The 80 on Fuel Pump GFP211, was also used on many many vehicles VWs Mercs,BMWs well into the later 80s
What you will need to mount this pump is the connection hardware, plastic shrink hose---banjos, etc. Need to change the plumbing and the power end connections.
I haven't researched the price of the Pump itself but it should be more readily available. and I would guess less money than $450...

Thanks. I was able to get back under the car and rub enough dirt off it and found that it is a USA made Carter. I remember putting it under there 9 years or so ago. I called the parts house I got it from to see what the warranty was on it- just a one year. Funny thing is, they have it listed as being for a V8 ford, no Volvo listing... So I am not sure how they sold it to me if its not even for a Volvo Application...
it pumps some serious fuel! since I don't have the popper fittings to do a full on CIS fuel test, I deadheaded my tester before the Fuel filter and took a reading- IT NEARLY BENT THE NEEDLE! it maxed out over 100PSI. I was trying to confirm what I had a mechanic do 2 weeks ago. There is another post about it- but he took a reading at the Cold start injector where the fuel pressure pegged at 70Psi then He told me it dropped to ZERO immediately... Not exactly the results I found.
My question to you (and everyone else) is:
if the line pressure maxed at 100, then fell quickly (1 min or so) to a fairly stable 70PSI for 15 min or so, then gradually fell to 30PSI- would that tell us anything?

in your other thread, I gave you a link to the Volvo Problem Solver from the Volvo Wiring Diagrams WebSite.
On that website. going to the home menu are links to the set of Green Books that cover the CIS K-Jet system. (I think it's in the Service Manuals Folder) along with the green book Fault Tracing
you will find the specs for running presssure, rest pressure. the system should hold presssure after the pumps(engine) are shut off. It should never drop to Zero
The Fuel Pressure Accumulator---does this. This is the device connected in line after the main pump...mounted next to it on the undercar bracket
I think running pressure is 70+ PSI and rest pressure is 30...but it's all in the book.

thanks again for the reply. I do have that link. I'll go back and take another look. I remember all the pressures were listed for the CI test. I just don't have the right adapters to make it work.
I guess I was wondering if deadheading the pressure gauge at the fuel filter and watching the pressure drop would tell me anything about the fuel line check valve?
or if deadheading the pressure gauge on the return line would give me any info.

In the Volvo Parts Diagram it's called : The Pressure Accumulator
In the Green Book it's called the Fuel Accumulator.

That between the pump and the cold start injector there is a leak?
Is the fuel pressure regulator that returns excess pressure to the tank good? Or could it be open at all pressures?

Last time I checked, Python could only rebuild your old core and I don't believe that is an option for the OP.
The one and only time I used a Python rebuilt fuel pump, the 1st one didn't work at all, the 2nd one leaked from the electrical connector. The 3rd one finally worked.

wow-news to me. I've seen other builder's leak at the housing but not a python. but, it's been a while since I had to deal with that design pump.
on the other hand, I might have a core. have to look. I had a 76, 78 and an 80 and still have a box of parts.
just looked at w/pac and they offer a new scantech that looks like the later lh-style kjet pump, along with bits to make it fit. better look for a rebuilt 1. we'll see, chuck.

Volvo part number 460821, Bosch part number 0 580 254 996 and is no longer available.
I do have an original Bosch NOS (New Old Stock)fuel pump with the check valve if you are interested.

you may not need the dash numbers. There is a note that says Non-return valve p/n243960-2, gasket p/n243961-0, included in fuel pump.

IPD has a replacement for the D-jet fuel pump and it should work for you.
In case you missed it in my first post, I HAVE A NEW ORIGINAL BOSCH EARLY K-JET PUMP FOR SALE!! :-) :-)
I will admit it won't be cheap, but there is someone on ebay right now selling a used one for a little less than I want for my new one.

ou earlier buI tried to message you earlier but couldn't get the email function to work.
How much are you looking to get for that NOS pump?
I must admit, I don't care too much about "Stock". Plus, mine already has a replacement pump (that's why the check valve doesn't fit). I did that with my 70 beetle, and fixing things got real expensive real fast.
I just need it to operate properly.
Does anyone know where I can install a check valve? I'd like to know if that is what is causing my start issue Before I drop a bunch more cash on a new fuel pump.

post a picture of the pump you have, if not part numbers maybe? you will not get sufficient holding pressure without using the correct check valve for the system. good luck, chuck.

the pump that is on there is a carter USA in -line pump (I'm not savvy enough to get the pic's off my phone to the forum quiet yet).
I think i might go to a junkyard and see if they have one... it it spools up and wants to pump, i have a check valve... so hopefully if it works then I'll know my old pump was bad?
Not sure really what to do- I dont want to throw money and parts at it, but it feel like I have too

if you go to the yard, the 74-79 is your best bet, providing it's STILL like original. I don't know what the carter pump looks like, early or the 1336517 starting in 80. keep in mind 1336517 kjet pump was only used 80-81 and most 82 240s and 81-85 240 turbo and the kjet 260 and 760-if you see them. the lh pumps that are more common from the later cars and LOOK like the 1336517 are not the same, the pressure is too low. they always have the fuel filter on the tray where the accumulator sits on the kjet cars.
if you have to use the later pump, get everything attached to the pump, except the fuel line from the tank and to the front. tray, brackets, everything. good luck, chuck.
