Rear brakes 120-130

Hey guys,

I was pointed here from the Volvo Owners forum about finding some rear brake drums for my 68 Amazon wagon.

First off, does anybody have any that they would be willing to part with? I only need one as the previous owner replaced the other at some point but not both.

If not, does anybody know of any substitutes or alternatives for the rear brake situation? I would really prefer not to spend the $300+ for a single brake drum.

Thanks!
Noah

    Rear brakes 120-130

    I have stated before that when I needed drums for my wagon that I found the best deal on new ones at Westport(Ct)Volvo. Out the door they came to about $425? I could look that up. I like the American Motors idea and if I could find the thread I'd download it and put it on the flash drive that I keep with about 100 threads that I saved from this forum when I see a subject I'd like to know more about.

      Noah;

      I also saw your post on British forum and you spoke of turning drums...remember, the material you allow to be turned off them today will make it that much sooner that you will need to replace them tomorrow! Some unevenness will always be present...this alone is NOT a reason to turn them...new shoes will conform to those after a short time...you will just have to manually adjust once or twice more as this occurs...so make certain adjustors are free to operate (I highly recommend rebuilding with Anti-Seize while drums are removed!). Do grind off Wear Lip!

      If Joe Lazenby cannot help, post back...there are several other forum contributors who have organ donor vehicles available...these are a real resource you need to support (where would we be without them?), and you need to build up you resource library!

      Good Hunting!

        I strongly disagree with the don't resurface the drum the shoes will fit eventually. If the drum is oval how can this happen? If the drum has wear in the surface that is uneven (at different depth) how many thousands of miles until the two surfaces are equal?
        I won't bore you with personal experiences.
        A proper brake drum is perfectly round and if undersized to accomplish this the shoes are arced to the new diameter. Standard drum brake maintenance for too many years.
        American Motors drums can be used if the center hole is enlarged. Covered here more than once.

          Do you know exactly what AM model from? I would love to have that info in the future. I ended ordering from Olof at Vintage Import Auto since he emailed me back and because he ships out of WA where I live so shipping wasn't bad.
