Noisey Blower lifespan? 200

Afternoon,
Its been over 10 years since I have owned/maintained a 240 so please pardon my naivety. I am tempted to take a look at a 90 240 in my area but the owner acknowledged in response to my query that the blower motor "may be a little noisey at high speed". Having read various accounts here I am not inclined to bite if I am convinced I will have to replace said blower shortly. Anyone have experience with a noisey blower and how long it may(or may not) last having begun its decline? Or can such a blower simply be noisey for years and not stop functioning? Hmmmmmmmm.
Here tis.

    No Sale! 200

Engine and tranny in fine shape(aside from Valve cover gasket). Needs front pads and rotors badly. Interior is decent shape. Deal killer was the hard hit to the right rear that tore off bumper cover and generally left the rear looking pretty badly. I do mechanics, not body work. But for someone just looking for a daily driver....its a steal at $600. I told her not to budge on the price. There's a new $200 radio head unit and all. TTYL.

I just bought another '84 244 last week with a loud blower that only worked on setting 3. It only lasted 5 minutes after I paid the guy and drove off. Turns out the bushing was gone and the fan was rubbing on the housing and had burned itself out. Did the blower motor swap over the last two days. I used the VDO blower motor that comes with the IPD kit. Didn't know it was made in China until it arrived. It is indeed a little louder than I had hoped but at least I have a functioning heater now.

The replacement motor in the IPD kit is noisy right from the start...

Mine has similarly been dying for 12 years, yet keeps on working. Speeds 1 & 2 stopped working years ago, and Speeds 3 & 4 squeal from time to time. If it's 10 degrees above zero in the winter and the car needs to be warmed up before driving, I just wait until the car is fully warmed up before turning on the blower. Otherwise, it'll squeal right from the get go. The blower motors on my previous two 240's had this slow death march as well. If you purchase the car, just baby the blower.

I have a 1987 245 that I bought 12 years ago. The blower was noisy when I bought it. Most notable at high speed. Changes pitch when making a turn, leading me to believe it is a little loose on the shaft. I have put 200,000 miles on the car since I bought it and it is still running. And I run the fan quite a bit. Hope that helps.

mine is on the 8th year of being noisy. loudest during the cold first few miles of a near zero day. then it quiets down.
thats this blower motor, yours may be just seconds from "eternal quiet".
an 80 245 i had, the motor just quit. no card or anything, just gone.
seen pictures of those who have repaired them. open heart looked neater. and easier. :)

The blower in my 90 never gave me any problems. Thankfully!

My experience with other makes is that a blower can either go south or last a long time if it's noisey.

BTW - In the picture that car looks pretty nice for $600. How is it in person? Ad says it is 1992 which a really good year. Here in Massachusetts you could get for $400+ for the car as scrap so it doesn't seem like it has too much of a downside to me...

These replies kinda confirm my suspicions. Hit or miss. I have not physically inspected. Will try to take a look tomorrow or Friday. And I do agree I could get $400 for the whole as scrap tomorrow so not much downside.....aside from my wives derision. She hates the look of too many of my "projects" in the driveway. This may take substantial bribery :)
