Request for Machinist in San Diego and possible valve issue? 700 1992

I'm hoping to find a machinist referral to a shop that is experienced with Volvo's in the San Diego/Southern California area.

While beginning an exhaust system replacement I sheared a manifold stud. The stud that sheared was at the #4 cylinder exhaust port.

The two links, which I hope are formatted properly, show the head and the cylinder. It is clear that the environment in the #4 cylinder is different then the other 3 cylinders.

In addition to a referral of a machinist that not only can extract the sheared stud but also has the ability to replace valves if needed, I'm looking for input into what might be happening.

Thank you for your input!

When loading photos (which is more than I know how to do)you should reduce the size of the files first.
You are correct that it looks like #4 combustion chamber is burning differently than the others. The heavy white deposits are baked on oil -- maybe a ring problem - or valve guide/seal. The others look perfectly normal.
The broken stud in that area probably is not related to that condition - just the luck (or unluck) of the draw. Any competent machine shop should be able to remove the broken stud and install a heli-coil if necessary. -- Dave

i got my head machined when the head gasket blew. I got a recommendation down at Santa Fe Street, near Balboa / I-5 intersection. They were pretty inexpensive.

Good Luck! I also had a bold sheard off inside the head.
