Brake Hard lines? 120-130

My brakes are leaking from the brake hose on the front passenger side. From looking at the driver side, shouldn't the hard line going into the hose be a male 3/8 24? It appears that the hose and hard line were fixed with something different than OEM. Would NAPA or autozone have hard line with the correct fitting and flare for the OEM hoses?

I'm in kind of a hurry to fix this since this is what we are driving for thanksgiving.

IIRC, starting in mid 1965, the brake hose connects in the fashion that is displayed in your picture, a female inverted flare nut on the metal brake line and a male inverted flare on the brake hose. And the brake hose mounting brackets are welded to the rear of the crossmember.

Prior to mid 1965, the brake hose connects as you described, with a male 3/8" inverted flare nut on the metal line and a female 3/8" female inverted flare on the brake hose. However, the earlier version has the brake hose mounting brackets welded to the frame above the center of the crossmember.

If you have different connections on each side, someone has modified the brake lines.

This is what the drivers side looks like. It looks like they replaced the line and used a hose that was too long.

Here is my brake hose. Do you know where I might be able to find one in Oregon before Tuesday? Every parts place does not show the correct part for my car.

I see a similar hose in the Volvo parts catalog for the dual circuit brake system with part number: 61799-5.

          Hello,

You can try your local dealership or surrounding Volvo specialty repair shops like mine or IPD.

The part number is actually 671799 and I have original Volvo hoses in stock along with a rear brake hose in case you need one.

Volvo suggested list price for the front hoses is $26.16 each and the rear hose is $21.59.

We sell braided steel brake hose sets for $90.00 which includes all 3 hoses and mounting hardware. The braided steel hoses have a vinyl coating and they come in different colors.

IPD also has braided steel brake hoses, but they want over $130.00 for their set.

Based on your profile Zip Code, I can ship your choice of hoses via USPS Priority Mail Express 1 day service for $25.00 and you will have your hoses by 3:00 pm on Tuesday.

        I agree.

The correct brake hose is still available, but you will need correct the metal brake line to make it fit.

And by the looks of the passenger side, you should be prepared to replace both brake hoses and metal brake lines.

Having replaced the brake lines and hoses on a succession of Volvos, Fords and Triumphs, the job is really not all that hard to do. The best tool that I have found to use is sold by Eastwood, Harbor Freight, and probably others. Eastwood part number is 12435. Harbor Freight is cheaper and just as good... No affiliation to either, by the way. The main thing - DO IT RIGHT!!! Stopping is much more important than going...

          Happy Thanksgiving,
