Amazon restoration (123GT) specialist in SF Bay Area? 120-130

Hi all,

My family and i are headed west this summer. Trying to decide whether to get major floor and some frame rust repair done here in new england or ship the gt with me and have it done out there.

Any particularly good welding/body shops on west coast?

I have a few in mind in new england.

Any input welcomed.

Best,

Nat

    Thanks for your ideas, folks.

Given how busy life gets, I'm currently in the process of selling off 15 of my 18 Volvos (most i'm parting and selling for scrap, 4 or 5 are nice), just leaving the 2 modern Volvos for daily transport and the GT to preserve and enjoy.

I'm considering doing the resto in stages: get floors / frame done now, patch a few other holes, get it roadworthy, and drive it for a few years. It's got great patina. My initial budget for floors / frame will be $3k - $5k which I expect is enough to get them done well.

Then I'll tear apart the GT for a full resto. I can do most of the assembly / disassemmbly / mechanical work. Other than floors, the rot is not horrible, but I still expect to pay $15k - $20k for excellent body and paint. Almost started to do the work myself, but needs to be as close to factory perfect as possible. Only a few 1968 GTs left.

Anyone know Carriage Motors in Wiscasset, Maine? I've heard David there knows what he's doing.

    Any other recommendations for Northeast?

    Thanks!

How about http://www.alanauto.com/index.html They have lots of Amazon experience and look as if they will work to your budget rather than theirs and still do a good job.
I'm in the UK so no connections but have enjoyed looking at some of their restoration folders.

The go-to guy in the Bay Area is Mike Dudek of iRoll Motors in Gilroy (mike@iroll.com). Great guy, incredibly knowledgeable, fair prices. He's not a body guy per se, as far as I know, but if anyone would know where to go to get the work done that needs done, he will.

    GTC..
They truly do NOT understand rust in CA, because they NEVER see it!!! You are in the rust capital of the country. Find a good local shop and trust them. Even Jean Lindamood sent her E9 to VSR in New Hampshire.

What's your budget? Automotive Restorations in Stratford CT does outstanding work but they are definitely not for the weak of wallet...
