Chasmataz owes me money and he won't return my emails, Please help. 200

Hello fellow Brickboarders,

I really hate having to do this, but times are tough and money is money and what he owes us would almost pay my rent at my apartment for a month.

Chasmataz came to our shop over a year ago and had us do some work to his 122 station wagon after he drove from the Great Lakes area to do some work somewhere in Southern California.

He needed more work than he could afford, but we went ahead with some repairs to his overdrive with the promise he would pay us.

Well that never happened and after he left, he stopped responding to our emails and we aren't going to Wisconsin or wherever he is to track him down to get him to pay us.

Chasmataz is trying to sell some parts via the classified ad here on the Brickboard and I would like your help in convincing him to respond to me.

I am even willing to trade for some parts if he has what we need, but he won't return my emails.

Thank you in advance for any help!!

"He needed more work than he could afford, but we went ahead with some repairs to his overdrive"

i was given an estimate of $500, the final bill came to well over a $1000. being 2000 miles from home i was unable to come up with the additional $500 and felt i had been taken advantage of being as far away as i was.
this the first communication i have had from anyone concerning this and if this is an example of how to do business it's no wonder that someone is having a hard time paying their rent.
there are numerous means of settling an outstanding debt without personal attacks in a public forum.
as i said, this is the first i've heard of this in better than 5 years, not 1 year ago as originally stated. i'm open to negotiating a fair settlement based on my original estimate, but will not negotiate or discuss this any longer in a public forum.
if running down your customers and doubling your estimates is how you run your business it's no wonder my "balance" is the difference in you being able to pay your rent or not.
and to the rest of you that have already decided i'm the bad guy in this, i'm sorry you've experienced meeting so many jerks in your life that you immediately jump to such conclusions.
eric; contact me privately, i will not do this in public.

Well, we all jump to the wrong conclusion, do we? Yeah a definite possibility, but consider this:

"i was given an estimate of $500, the final bill came to well over a $1000. being 2000 miles from home i was unable to come up with the additional $500 and felt i had been taken advantage of being as far away as i was.
this the first communication i have had from anyone concerning this..."

Let's see, you knew what the final bill was and some 5 YEARS LATER have apparently done nothing to settle your debt. Hmmm, hmmm, yep we all might have jumped to the wrong conclusion, but then again...

There are so many people that need help at some point in life and because of someone like him won't get it. I have always tried to help someone when asked but when you run into someone like him you tend to back away the next time.
I have been taken advantage of before but I try to remember there are more honest people then not. He may think he got over on you and will do it again if he is given a chance. Hopefully he will make it right and pay you for your services.

Check social media - maybe you can find out where he works, lives, hangs out, etc.

Do a Google search - check myspace - Charlie Orme has a 122 picture - nice fog lights.

We tried that route of communication and were blocked after initial contact. I would not mind seeing him in person, but we are in California and he is Minnesota supposedly. Chasmataz recently placed an ad in the classified section of the Brickboard, so I thought someone else might get through to him as he ignored my recent attempt to answer his ad.

This 2007 Post by Chasmataz Provides Some Insight 200

In 2007, a brickboarder reported questionable behavior by someone (not Chasmataz) whom he had gone out of his way to pass some parts onto gratis.

    http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/1168262/1800/warning_ammumanu_buyer_beware.html

    Chasmataz's response to that posting:

    http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/1173378/1800/warning_ammumanu_buyer_beware.html

    "let it go man...
life's too short to whine about being taken advantage of.
i'm sure we all have a story that didn't turn out as we would have liked.
live and learn as they say. "

In light of his failure to pay up as promised, that post provides insight as to the workings of his furry little brain.

Chazmataz reminds me of some of the scummiest clients I dealt with in my former life as a probation officer (and I had occasion to meet a few).
