I think if you have a spare distributor cap and rotor, give it a try.
I had a distributor go on me like this once on a Dodge. I had plenty of spares so I just changed it over.
Later on inspection of the messed up distributor, one of the advance springs had broke.
Had another one go, it was the pickup in the distributor was toast.

I think a closer look at the distributor, cap + rotor may be in order.
