Hood Seal 700 1990

The hood seal on my wagon is loose and has let water into the distributor cap. The plastic Tees that connect it to holes in the fire wall appear to have pulled through the seal.

Has any just pulled it off and reattached it with plastic pan head screws? I was thinking of drilling a small hole in the seal and using automtive plastic screws to reattach it. I would also add a bit of silicone to seal the drilled hole as well.

I measure the holes with a drill bit to be a hair larger than 1/4 inch.

I forgot to mention this in my answer to your other post..

The gasket on my wife's 940 had the same problem as yours.
I simply resealed it with "Seal-All" adhesive.

This solvent based "glue in a tube" can be bought at most auto parts store and at Walmart, etc.
It's a ideal product for gluing or sealing most anything.
It is really strong and resistant to water, gasoline, oil, and most solvents.
It's in a yellow tube.
Every garage should have a tube of this stuff.
(No, I don't work for or have any financial interest in this product).

hey hillbilly would "seal all" be suitable for gluing my side-view mirror back on? I noticed it was really jiggling on the way home from work and it just peeled off. There is a rubbery substance that remains on the mounting plate but the back of the mirror is very clean.

Hood Seal 700 1990

Hi,
I just did the job recently. I drilled small holes through the seal and used plastic carpet attachment screws. Like this:

http://www.perfectfit.com/15290/155969/Trim-Clips--Auto-Fasteners/Nylon-Door-Panel-Fastener---Ford--Chrysler--VW.html

(Got them at home depot, inexpensively). The picture is just an example, not necessairily the size I used. I dont remember the size. Just eyeball it. Its what I did.

It worked perfectly. Put a bead of silicone sealer between the seal and firewall.

make sure to drill at a proper angle and be careful, dont break the seal.

Hope this helps.

That's exactly what I was thinking of doing.

Did you take the seal off and replace them all or just do it in place, replacing the bad ones?

I removed the seal and replaced all with the push screws. Once I got the silicone sealer and the push screws it went fast.

Good luck

Make sure you angle screws up so you get a good tight seal. When I close my hood It sounds like the hood is giving the seal a nice long kiss. Im really happy with the results.
