For a 92 960 straight six i notice there is Two different pulleys that go to the timing belt why. does it matter which one you use?

Do you mean that the crank pulley has 2 V-grooves so that V-belts could be used to drive 2 different accessories. If so, you use the one that lets the belt run true, i.e. not offset relative to the other pulley's the belt drives. Good luck. Mike

On the water pump the pulley has teeth spaced close together and the other water pump has the teeth are spaced much further apart. The belt that drives my water pump is a toothed timing belt.

OK, when I changed the timing belt on my 850 (5 cyl version of your motor), I noticed that the pump seemed to have gaps in the tooth spacing. Searching around I found they were like this. Not sure why they would not have a uniform number of teeth on the sprocket equally spaced, but thats what they showed. I put new belt on and it's been fine for 18 months. Hope this helps. Mike

All sorted now there is two pumps and two different timing belts.
Up to engine number 131034 use the early pump which also suits the 850. The engines built after 131034 use the later pump.

Water pump drive 900 1992

Dear volvo426,

Hope you're well. I do not operate a 960 car. I believe that the six-cylinder engines have a single, serpentine-format drive belt, rather than the three separate drive belts used on the B230 engines, installed in 940 models.

The teeth on the drive sprockets (cams, water pump, etc.) must match those of the drive belt. If the teeth on the new water pump's drive sprocket do not match those on the serpentine belt, then the wrong water pump has been supplied.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
