Rear Trunk Door on Wagon 700 1986

My first post! Time to unsubscribe to Cadillac Forums for my sold 1983 Eldorado and now found Brickboard for my new 1986 740 GLE Wagon.

First of two questions. The rear hatch door does not open. Can someone please help?

Only 3 things to fix asap

1) Windshield -Tomorrow $150 installed
2) Rear door?
3) Left rear brake light. Another question another day

The lock cylinder for the rear hatch may be rusted shut. Does yours have power locks? My wagon hatch will only operate by using the power lock. Make sure that the handle's latch is pushed forward before before you unlock it.

    That's what worked for me...

The brake light probably is not be working because of the bulb out sensor. It is a relay that many of the currents going to the lights flow through to detect if a light is out. The traces on the relay go bad and you loose the light.

Check out eeuroparts.com as a source for the bulb out relay.

Whenever I had a windshield done on one of our 740s, I removed the wipers and cowl before I took the car to the shop.

That way, I could make sure the nuts on the wipers were not abused, and I could clean the cowl area out real good and attach the screen under the cowl with 8 small zip ties.

Volvo sticks the screen on with black goop and it often falls down after several years.

I think the windshield guys appreciated the help.
