rubber shifter collar on 72 145E M40 trans 140-160

I have a 72 145 E with M40 (no overdrive). I just noticed there is a loud buzzing / vibration noise at shifter, mostly at highway speed. Would there be a rubber collar for the shifter shaft on my car? anyone have one for sale?

THX!

Tim

Maybe you've already done it--check that the shifter retaining collar is tight--they can and do loosen. I don't recall ever seeing a noise filter on a 140 like under a 240 boot but you should be able to cobble one up from an old cushion. Make sure the boot itself is in good shape--they can split in the folds and sound like a bad transmission. -- Dave

      Hello,

If the large nut that retains the shifter is tight and you still have a rattle, then you might need the bushings that go inside the chrome section of the shifter handle.

The nut is tight, the chrome shaft spins fairly freely (which it didn't before this vibrating noise), so im guessing your right. IPD doesn't carry this bushing, any idea where I could buy it / them? P.S. Im also looking for block off plate for Djet aux valve, IPD wont sell me that either, cuz it's part of a carb conversion kit lol

          Hello,

We have the block off plate in stock and we should have the 2 shifter handle bushings in stock.

Turns out it wasn't the shifter bushings making all that noise, the problem is bad shifter linkage shaft bushings. luckily I had a big cushion I could wedge between seat & shifter which tamed the noise totally
