1994 940 Temp Gauge Inoperable 900 1994

Hey all,
So recently my temperature gauge in the gauge cluster on my '94 940 wagon started acting "twitchy" in the most literal sense and now it won't budge from the cold position. Originally I thought it may have been a bad solder contact on the back side of the gauge cluster, but after doing some investigating some people say it might be the temperature sensor?

I appreciate any insight :-)

Dear Pianoman702,

Hope you're well. The temp gauge sender has failed: temperature gauges do not seem to fail (I cannot recall a report of such a failure).

The temp gauge sender is mounted on the driver's side of the head (North American models) under the first two intake manifold runners. There's no need to drain coolant to change this sensor.

Because the sensor's connector housing (plastic) is wider than is the hex fitting, onto which a socket may be put, you will need to break-off the connector housing, to use a socket to remove the sensor. It may be possible to use an open-end wrench, avoiding the need to remove the connector's housing.

The item is Part #1362645. A Volvo dealer will charge about $60 for this item. It can be had for less elsewhere.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook

Just to clarify: remove the wiring connector FIRST before trying to break the sensor plastic housing and remove the sensor body with a socket.
