Wiper Arm Cable Disconnected. Drivers Side. 960/S90. 1998. 900 1998

Hi all: I have a 1998 Volvo S90/960. 120,000. Miles

The drivers side wiper arm does not work. It is completely loose and can be moved and rotated easily by hand. I opened the hood and as I looked down by hood hinge on the drivers side and I can see the end of the wiper mechanism cable protruding out some type of guide.

It appears that either the end of the cable became disconnected from this guide piece or that maybe the cable itself has slip off of the cam mechanisms.

My question is this. How do I get in there to inspect this wiper cable assembly?

Is it something I can do by removing the black cowl (air intake cowl or drainage cowl, if you will) that appears to cover the wiper arms?

This would be accessablle from under the hood at the bottom of the windshield

OR, do I have to get to it from inside the car, under the dash?

Any assistance would be appreciated

Thanks.....Mr. Tool

I don't know the answer to your question, however I have had wiper arms do the same thing . Take the arm off and turn on the wipers and see if the shaft that the arm attaches to, is turning. Sometimes the problem is that the nut came loose and the arm and shaft have had the teeth stripped.
