AARGH!!! I can't wait for good weather! 444-544

Hello Fellow PV Enthusiasts,
Are you like me? You live in a cold region where your PV is currently put away in storage and your garage is too damn cold to do any work?! This sucks, doesn't it?
Waiting for the return of good weather....

AARGH!!! I can't wait for good weather! 444-544

The fun is in driving the car. My Duett is my only 4 wheel transportation. Winter makes upkeep and maintenance difficult, but gives me much to do in the warmer months.
I spent ten years restoring my last Duett but drove it the whole time- fix the brakes, steering and engine and go for a drive, fix up all the other bits as you go !

Down here in central Texas, this IS the season to work on it. Regrettably, work keeps getting in the way and I haven't had much time to touch it either (sigh).

I put as many layers as I can under my coveralls and then work until my fingers are too darned numb to go anymore. It all depends on how much metal you have to hold to get the job done.

This is my approach. Even wearing non-insulated mechanic's gloves will give me that much more time to work on it. But when you can't feel your fingertips and have to work with small parts, it's time to head inside. And then there's the smashing of a knuckle when your hands are frigid. extra ouch, extra cursing.

Get 'er runnin' and drive it!

I most definitely thing back fondly on the Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings I attended, and always made a point to drive the Jag XK. No, the heater wasn't hooked up. No, the windows didn't roll up.

Good for her to have a run, I always figured...

I swear owning a classic car is an addiction, & I'm in need of a fix - badly!
I think I may drive up to where I store my PV just to LOOK at it.
    God, I'm a sick puppy! :)
In good driving weather, when you park your PV, do you find yourself glancing back at it, just to get one more look? Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this! :)
    Paging Dr Phil! :)

I find myself constantly looking back at the PV. I even leave the garage open on sunny days so I can see it from my kitchen. I'm pathetic.

That is an illness more people should have. I used to park my 220, and look back and smile because nothing else on the street looks as good.

Cold is determined by garage temperature. I have ice on my floor and cannot work on my latest rescue until that melts, probably after St Patty's day. One of the reasons is that I need to get under the dash, which means my knees will be on the floor and the tight spaces negates wearing hat and gloves.

Unfortunately, in the Midwest there is no 'Spring'. It will be 35F out one day and 80F the next with thunderstorms...

Lean the seat back and slide it back as far as it goes and put your feet over the back of it.
Then you can get your head under the dash where the debrís will fall in your eyes and mouth,
but if you have a light, you MIGHT be able to see what you are doing.
Put a small heater in the car and soon it will be TOO warm in there!

          Good one George 444-544

Glad to see your sense of humor is still strong, despite the snow on the ground.

The only draw back to your method is that I will need a strong helper to get me extricated for coffee breaks! With my feet on the rear hat shelf, do I get out of the rear door?

If the 544s wouldn't cost so much money for a 'drivable' version, I would trade in my project car. Of course, my wife probably wouldn't sit in it with out climate control, butt warmers, and retractable seat belts. We both love the design.

I wish I had the luxury of putting mine in storage. My daily driver pickup transmission is slipping (automatic). The 544 has become a daily driver. Is it ready for it? NO. Heater core leaking and making the cabin a steam room when heat is on. Therefore, no heat in winter in Baltimore. Suspension needs work and charging system not holding up to the pressures of driving daily. Need to put a charger on it about once a week. Fun though and get a lot of thumbs up.

    Amen brother.

Mine is still in the body shop in Indiana (10 years) but should be able to pick it up and bring back to Arkansas in April.

This has been the coldest winter for a long time in AR.

    Best

    Ray J.

I've been slogging away whenever weather allows (with a propane heater). I'm too impatient to wait for nice weather up here (MA). But I'm done with winter. I want to drive this thing!!
