Dash lighting comes on when I step on the brakes 200 1991

Hi All, the car is a 91 245SE.

I've noticed that the dash lighting comes on dimly when I step on the brakes (the lighting for the HVAC controls, etc.) I suspect there mush be a poor ground somewhere, so electricity is grounding through the lighting, but I'm not sure how to track down the actual culprit ground point, any suggestions? Or is this normal?

You would want to start with the grounding of the right tail light assembly. This is where both brake and tail light circuits share a ground wire. The interior panel lighting is part of the right tail light circuit (fuse 16).

Did you recently change the radio or had a need to remove the headlight switch, instrument cluster? Also as stated the ground points on the sides of the center console, sometimes Volvo piled on 3 or 4 grounds on one bolt. Maybe remove, sand them clean and reinstall nice and tight. Clean the brake light fuse too.

    It is not normal.

Start with the grounds on either side of the center console brace. If that does not do it, plan on search for page from the Green Manual that shows all the grounding points.
