Valve springs question - B23FT 200

B23FT: I have the head on the bench with all the valves removed. I know the valves have to go back in the same spots. What about the springs? Are the intake springs exactly the same strength as the exhaust springs? Do I need to put the springs and other bits back in the same holes? I don't think I do, but I want to make sure before I clean everything, and possibly mix them up.

Valve springs question - B23FT 200

If this is your 81 242, consider getting new springs. They do get old and a broken spring is not an easy diagnosis.

No, the order of the springs, keepers, is not critical. A little kerosene works wonders.

Valve springs question - B23FT 200

If it is original, all the springs should be the same rates. With springs, I usually try to keep them the same for each valve, but I *may* have messed up once or twice. I've never had a problem. For keepers and such, I wouldn't worry about it.

That said, it never hurts to put things together in the same way they were taken apart . . .

Nate
