I have a problem with one license plate light on the above car. The socket is bad and won't pass state inspection. I checked online and the whole assembly,part # 3503333, is around 100 bucks. Has anyone just replaced the socket or does the whole assembly need to replaced? Thanks in advance. Matt

I think you have to remove the whole light assembly from the inside. Sedans have a left and right side but check to make sure they are the same for a wagon. Did you consider removing it and cleaning out the lamp socket. It uses a #3893 push and turn bulb. Is the socket totally corroded and falling apart or just not lighting up the bulb? If the latter, remove the assembly for best access and clean the bulb socket and probe with a meter. If the former, new lamp assembly.

Tom, The socket was mangled so a replacement was in order. I installed and it worked great. As far as a pick and pull, they don't exist. We have one salvage yard that specializes in european parts and the prices are next to new. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places. Thanks again for all that helped. Matt

Hope you're well. Volvo VADIS - the now-superseded Dealer Parts/Service Database - shows that the license plate light bulb socket is part #3526009. This item should be about $40-45 at a dealer.

Part #3526009 was also used on 740s, 760s, 960s, and V90s (variously made from 1985-1998), so you should be able to find one at a salvage yard for small money.

Spook, Thanks for the quick reply. The number I posted was on the assembly and that is for the entire handle. I will stop by the dealer tomorrow. I have never had good luck with salvage yards. The prices are about the same as new and they have to remove. Thanks again. Matt
