Back to springs for a '71 142 140-160

Are the rear springs the same in a '74 142 and a '71 142? I found a source for new springs, but the supplier's information only goes back to '74. My guess is that they are the same, or that they are the same as those in a 240. I sort of feel compelled to find out before ordering.

Second, question. I was informed that the springs for a 240 will fit a 140, except for the mounting at the top (thanks for the information). Does anyone have some of the cones used at the top for attachment of 240 springs?

Thanks for the help. I had forgotten how valuable this site it.

According to the parts catalogs, it appears the standard rear spring for all 140's from 1970 thru 1974 is the same part number... 683916-1.

You have probably already thought of this, but you might want to check if the spring supplier shows a difference between the 1974 140 and 1975 240 rear springs. If not, you're probably going to get 240 style springs, even if you order the '74 140 pieces.

if you are near a pick and pull yard you could get the 240 springs and upper perches with little effort and little investment. I believe the non turbo sedan or coupe springs would be lighter and more suitable to your 142.
I have done this myself and its pretty simple, just replace the hardware for peace of mind. (don't forget your vicegrips !)

I agree w/ aharvey4.
Springs from a 200 series junkyard car is what I did with my '72 144 and '70 145.
