I cannot agree with disabling your fan.
I found that the fan on our '90 744 TI was seized - I also later found that my thermostat was bent to hold it open - but that is another story.
After I installed a new fan, I was surprised to see the fan run one morning in the winter as I cleaned and scraped our 2 cars.
My car had a new thermostat and fan. As an experiment, I ran the car at idle on a day where the temperature was 32 degrees - my fan started within 5 minutes.
I repeated this experiment a couple of times with the same results - the temperature gauge showed a normal reading.
Hence, I do not think that you should disable your fan and not repair the problem.
Keep in mint that unless you have modified it, your temperature gauge is not a good monitor of your engine temperature, and if it shows hot on the gauge, your car is HOT!
You might ask BB members if it is a good idea to disable your fan.
