Converting a 1986 B230F LH 2.2? to 90s LH 2.4-Plug and play? 200

Hi,

Have the chance to pick up a B230F motor (from an 86-actually car was manufactured 1/87) that has LH 2.2 (I think). What conversions would it take to put it into a 90s 240 with LH 2.4?

Would the 90s model intake and exhaust manifolds bolt right on?

Take out the LH 2.2 electronics and hook up the LH 2.4?

Plug and play?

Nothing is wrong with either my 90 244 or 92 245 just brainstorming here because a 86 B230F motor is available to me for cheap.

Thanks,

Travis

The manifolds will bolt right on. I've done this conversion twice. You won't have anything to plug into the distributor on the old engine, but that's ok. The signal comes from the crank position sensor. If you are planning on using the transmission from the 87, you will have to swap the flywheel from the later car. The CPS reads from a ring of holes on the flywheel. The 87 bell housing has a knock-out to accomodate the CPS.

You'll need to use the Coolant Temperature Sensor and Throttle Body from the LH 2.4 car. If the earlier engine is from a 740, you'll have use the Intermediate Shaft from a 240. The earlier engine has a place to mount the RPM sensor.

      Hi John,

      The 86 engine is from a 240.

So the 2.4 coolant temp sensor and misc. other sensors would thread right into the block?

      Thanks,

      Travis

The CTS is a direct interchange. Other than that, use the engine harness, and IAC from the later car. The early throttle body will work, but you don't need the idle adjustment screw on LH 2.4.
