brake pad compatibility 900 1994

I have some unused PBR pads that I bought for a 1984 240 that I no longer own. I need to replace the rear pads and rotors on my 1994 940 wagon. I looked at an online retailer and it appeared that the PBR pads for both cars had the same part numbers. But in the FAQ it appears that there are different pads even between an early model 740 and a 940 with ABS, like mine. Will the PBR pads for the 240 fit my car?

Dear iowa_945,

Hope you're well. Volvo has many part numbers for rear brake pad kits. FCP Groton shows that the rear pads for a 1984 240 are identical to those in a 1994 940 (and other 940s). The relevant part numbers are: 31261185, 271668, 271824.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook

thanks you, Spook. I actually do not have the PBR Deluxe pads listed on FCP Groton and IPD, but rather the PBR XBG, part number D43 XBG. Looking on google I can't find any documentation of fitment for these pads on the 940. I'm wondering if the fact that the PBR Deluxe are compatible with both means that this style of pad is as well. I don't want to take a chance with brakes, however.

Call PBR or whoever owns them now.

did that, waiting to hear back. but in the meantime I realized that the pads were actually for the front of the 84 but looked kind of like rear pads (square shape) because they are for the girling callipers. my mistake.
